Developments in Clergy Housing Allowance Case

Date: April 15, 2014

In the interest of our pastors and benefits participants, we at FCMM are committed to keeping you updated on benefits and taxation issues that affect church staff. A Western District Court of Wisconsin ruling last year that the clergy housing allowance is unconstitutional, if upheld, would result in major impact upon church and clergy finances. The case is being appealed to the Seventh Circuit U.S. Court.

The Church Alliance, a coalition to which FCMM belongs, has filed an amicus curiae ("friend of the court") brief in the case. As the church benefits organization of the EFCA, FCMM considers the issue to have major potential impact on the financial planning and well-being of our participants.
